Clarissa Shields, Ph.D.

Dr. Clarissa Shields is a pediatric neuropsychologist who provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. She specializes in assessing brain injuries (e.g., concussion/TBI, stroke, brain tumor, encephalitis), learning disorders, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, neurological medical conditions (e.g., epilepsy, genetic disorders, congenital heart defects, cerebral palsy, spina bifida) and mood and anxiety disorders. Her approach is collaborative and client-centered, focusing on identifying individual strengths and challenges to create personalized recommendations for families.

Before becoming a neuropsychologist, Dr. Shields earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Elementary/Middle Education from Marquette University and taught kindergarten. She then completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Kent State University, an APA-accredited internship in pediatric neuropsychology at Dell Children’s Medical Center, and a two-year fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Shields has worked extensively in hospital and private practice settings to address developmental, cognitive, learning, and psychological concerns. She has unique expertise in conducting pre-surgical epilepsy evaluations, assessing disorders of consciousness due to severe brain injury, and completing neurodevelopmental assessments for infants (18 months and older). Dr. Shields also provides therapy to adolescents and young adults adjusting to changes in cognitive, emotional, and physical functioning following a brain injury.
